Up late at night with King Conan

Tuesday, January 16, 2007 - Soon Van

Conan and the Midnight God #1 (of 5)

Conan and the Midnight God #1 (of 5); written by Joshua Dysart, art by Will Conrad, cover by Jason Alexander

Back years ago, around 1998, there was Conan: The Adventurer TV series starring Ralf Moeller (one time action stunt double for Arnold Schwarzenegger) in the eponymous role.

Odd and often not so great, Conan had a posse about with his travels. They looked more like a circus than a band of warriors at times. Even if the show screened late at night.

Conan has won the throne of Aquilonia and the hand of the beautiful Zenobia. With a kingdom to rule and an heir on the way, will the Cimmerian finally put up his sword for good?

Don't bet on it.

When his bride and country are attacked by a sinister Stygian sorcerer, Conan strikes back at Stygia with all his might--and the might of Aquilonia--in a move that threatens to throw all Hyboria into chaos!

The long-awaited reunion of Violent Messiahs creators Joshua Dysart and Tone Rodriguez, Conan and the Midnight God #1 opens an exciting new chapter in the adventures of the barbarian king.

Conan and the Midnight God #1 from Dark Horse

Nothing with the Dave Mathews Band as Picard and the crew of the Enterprise D hit the stars again in Star Trek: The Next Generation: The Space Between from IDW. Six legs celebrating the twentieth anniversary and history rewrites itself on a daily basis when Riker, Tasha and Data discover Tigan-7 are kind of Wikipedians in nature.

The She-Devil with a sword gets a candle that lights up the Red Sonja: She-Devil With A Sword Annual. Michael Avon Oeming and Stephen Sadowski jump back into the telling of the legend born late a couple from Dynamite Entertainment.

Get the funky monkey on as Bill Willingham and Shawn McManus take the first of DC's one shots for a golden helmet in The Helmet of Fate: Detective Chimp. The Simian Sleuth is called upon to solve the murders of wannabe super heroes who probably didn't wannabe dead super-heroes.

Round the outside, round the outside with Jeff Mariotte and Albert Dose and Desperadoes: Buffalo Dreams from IDW Publishing. More than hats and horses to make a western, and this comic aims to show you the red wagon.

Also from the light bulb, Bryan "Steve-Dave" Johnson and Walt "Walt Flannigan" Flannigan, hit it up with vampires and World War II in War of the Undead. First of three where Adolf Hitler is gone and Dracula looks to be the new head around.

With Keith Champagne and Noah Salonga, it's single stick of Dynamite in Xena: Strange Visitor. One where the warrior princess faces off against an alien from another planet. Not like it'd be an alien from this planet. That's just an immigration issue.

Single shot with the devil, as Mike Carey, P.J. Holden and Mike Perkins go Desperado with Mike Carey's One-Sided Bargains. Devil is in the details, and the details lie right in the tiny small print that even Willy Wonka would enjoy reading.
