FINAL CRISIS: RAGE OF THE RED LANTERNS #1 (OF 4)

FINAL CRISIS: RAGE OF THE RED LANTERNS #1 (OF 4) - DC

The Sinestro Corps war was a taste of what has come, as Rage of the Red Lanterns starts this week. The saga continues and we have a new set of ring bearers in the game - The Red Lanterns; they are most violent of the Corps, as rage is their source of  power that drives them. Sinestro seems to be their main target. All this leads into "The Blackest Night", which starts next year.

The prelude to "The Blackest Night" begins here! They come from a place of great anger and hatred. They are the Red Lanterns and they will have their revenge against the greatest Green Lantern - Sinestro. That is, unless the Guardians have theirs first - Written by Geoff Johns; Art and covers by Shane Davis and Sandra Hope.

Other comics out this week

Sheena the Jungle Woman returns with the second volume in Dark Rising - a three-part mini-series. Sheena is caught in the center of the jungle where she comes across a mysterious relic hidden by the Nazi back in the old days. What secrets has this relic have and what happens when it re-surfaces? Cover A by Joe Jusko.

Garth Ennis has another war story to tell with Battlefields: Night Witches, a three part mini-series, published by Dynamite Entertainment. This is the first of many war tales under the Battlefields banner. The year is 1942 and the Germans have invaded the motherland of Russia and the the Russians look to hit back with their bomber fighter pilots who happen to be all women! They are known as the Night Witches and they will become legendary. Pencils by Russ Bruan with covers by John Cassaday.

Parallel Earths can open if you have a Ghost box, that's what we learn in Astonishing X-men #27. The stories continues in this two-part series that ties into Warren Ellis' Astonishing X-men. The story features Agent X-13 and Emma Frost as they are confronted with choices they have to make and what will those choices result in, what affect will it have on the X-men? Sounds like an Exiles tale.

Trade of the week - X-Men Messiah Complex

In the aftermath of HOUSE OF M, DECIMATION and ENDANGERED SPECIES, the future of mutants has never been bleaker. At the seeming end of their evolutionary cycle, a miracle arrives in the form of the first mutant birth since the tragic events of M-Day, when the Scarlet Witch obliterated the X-gene from virtually every mutant on the planet. But from this source of hope comes a clash between mutants over who will control the child’s fate. It is a battle in which every mutant on the planet has a stake. The fight is on. The combined effort of several of Marvel’s top creators, X-MEN: MESSIAH COMPLEX mines the rich tapestry of the X-Men Universe for a dizzying thrill-ride of suspense that will set a new course for the future of mutantkind. Collecting the X-MEN: MESSIAH COMPLEX one-shot, Uncanny X-Men #492-494, X-Men #205-207, New X-Men #44-46 and X-FACTOR #25-27. Rated T+
