Booster on the break away from the future

Thursday, August 16, 2007 - Tom

The All-New Booster Gold #1

The All-New Booster Gold #1; written by Geoff Johns and Jeff Katz; art and cover by Dan Jurgens and Norm Rapmund

All these people coming back from the future, do any of them even have an idea of what happened to the missing $50 voucher? Does it ever even exist that far into the months and years from now?

Exploding from the pages of 52 and exploring the timeline of the DC Universe comes a new monthly book featuring the greatest super-hero history will never know: Booster Gold!

Following the universe altering conclusion of 52, Booster Gold wants what's due to him -- a spot on the Justice League of America! But the time stream's in trouble, and Booster Gold is in the center of it! Now he must make a choice: reclaim his former glory or do the right thing, forgoing the credit.

ALL-NEW Booster Gold will take you through time and space, to the greatest moments of the DCU that have happened and will happen.

"52 Pick-Up" begins in this extra-sized issue #1! Someone is exploiting the ravaged time stream, hoping to eliminate the world's greatest heroes -- and only Booster Gold can stop them. But, really -- Booster Gold? Why him? What does Rip Hunter truly want? And what shocking figure is behind it all?

The All-New Booster Gold from DC Comics

Glen Brunswick and Frank Espinosa check up on the Killing Girl. Basically, what if the Mafia had a secret service of their own? Name calling again? On top of all the people walking around with absences of knees? So many suits...

Jason Aaron and Jorge Lucas throw into the shark waters with the floating chum in Ripclaw: Pilot Season. One of a half dozen that will come from the Top Cow's teat's and by the end, only the chosen ones (by actual readers) will continue on.

"First, let's make sure he's dead." There is a silence, then a shot is heard. The guy's voice comes back on the line. He says: "OK, now what?" And that's the death of that punch line! Oh, that bears nothing in relation to The Fourth Horseman by Jeffrey Nodleman and Tommy Castillo. Horse is a horse of course, of course. Unless it's either a dead horse or a horse ridden by death. Then, not so much.

David Lapham and Patrick Zircher pick the skin and limbs of five and so at Terror, Inc. Where a rotting private eye needs to keep on stacking on other parts to feed his constantly decaying body. Certainly not like sitting at the train station picking off flakes of skin for about a half hour until the City via South Line train rolls up.

Trade of the week

Invincible: Volume 1: Family Matters by Robert Kirkman and Cory Walker takes the cake for the superhero stuff done straight up and with a nicely done kick to the side of the funny bone. And that's a good thing. Or cold or hot. Though stay away from eating comics in any sense. At least without a TV dinner nearby to throw up from.
