Spirit for the souls as the bells toll

Tuesday, December 12, 2006 - Soon Van

The Spirit #1

The Spirit #1; written by Darwyn Cooke, art by Cooke and J. Bone, cover by Cooke

Dapper wear with a nice fedora to cap off a well-worn outfit. Deck it out with a subtle mask covering the eyes and the look is nearly complete. Throw in a trench coat and the Spirit is all in the making. Then comes the soul and that which cannot easily find itself in the coat pockets. Clothes do not make people, they only begin the walk.

Acclaimed writer/artist Darwyn Cooke (DC: THE NEW FRONTIER) sets his sights on Will Eisner's classic hero The Spirit in this all-new monthly series that maintains the "spirit" of Eisner's creation while bringing a new sensibility to the character. The Spirit, a.k.a. Denny Colt, joins Commissioner Dolan and his daughter Ellen in this go-for-broke, shoot-the-lights-out crime story!

When ace television reporter Ginger Coffee is abducted by a crime lord she was about to run an expos? on, The Spirit is called in to investigate. Finding her is tough enough, but getting out alive is a whole other matter!

Don't miss the first exciting issue, filled with action, adventure, humor and sexy girls!

The Spirit #1 from DC Comics

No six fingers here with a slice of X-23 Target X. Craig Kyle, Christopher Yost and Mike Choi guide Marvel's Wolvie clone into what she hopes will be a new life for herself.

Vertigo returns to the gas mask in the sands of Afghanistan with Sandman Mystery Theatre: Sleep Of Reason. A dusty storm made into five parts with John Ney Rieber, Eric Nguyen and Tim Bradstreet. But no longer with Wesley Dodds, instead a new bloke by the name of Kieran Marshall resurrects the mantle.

Tony Bedard and Paul Pelletier jump in and throw around some Marvel meat with the battle trays flying about in the Exiles Annual. It's Exiles against Exiles as the current roster face the original team. Oh, will someone think of closing the fridge door!

Sing a song of penance with Peter David and Andrew Currie as they pay it forward in a way with Wonder Man: My Fair Supervillain. Marvel limited of five songs, once a villain, now a good guy, Wonder Man looks to help another up and out.

Four on the floor with a rollicking dirt porridge for more as Zach Howard, Sean Murphy and Reed Buccholz spin things right on absurd in Outer Orbit from Dark Horse. Outrageous, y'hear? Sounds like slapstickish noir in a space fantasy way.
