Variants fall victim to vexing attacks

Speculators and "gotta have 'em all" fanboys are being put on notice with two events surrounding the issue of variant covers coming from the last week.

First off, due to a computer glitch with the inventory, Diamond cancelled all orders for half of the second issues of Defex andBreakdown, part of the Aftermath line of comics being published by Devil's Due. Not only did this halve all orders coming in for the new launch titles in their arsenal, blowing a massive hole in their numbers, but it puts a dent in the 50/50 split of the first issue covers, ultimately making them /50.

Later in the week, in a bout of coincidence with marks of hijinks stamped all over, the variant covers of Wolverine #20 (the first in a new creative run by Mark Millar & John Romita, Jr.) mysteriously disappeared from the L.A. Diamond distribution warehouse.

With rising concern of readers fearful on the full-fledged return of the head-tripping waste waters of the 90s, replete with endless cover alterations and gimmicks, this may very well be part of covert machinations by individuals intent on wanting more different comics as opposed to different covers of those same comics.

Stocks and shipment of comics from Avatar Press remain unaffected by the ordeal.
