No licking action for the stamped DC superheroes

The Multiverse

Poor form from the United States Postal Service. Issued stamps featuring super heroes and comic book covers from the DC Comic Universe not the kind to lick up a storm.

Spending twenty minutes on the phone to the Stamp Fulfillment centre, probably at 22:30 in the US (Central or Pacific time, no idea), made no difference in the news.

Sadly, all those time poor in the world are making the gum-backed stamps an increasing rarity. Moved over in favour of the self-adhesive abominations. Good for quick posting, bad, seriously bad for serious die hard collectors. Comics or philatelists the like.

Still, if talking with the operator shows up any glimmer of hope, it's possible paying through the left nostril for an uncut sheet may yield favourable results.

Frankenstein go squishy squashy

Staff picks

End of the month on August 31 and still feeling a little whacked out and walking on corked muscles after the massive sale weekend celebrating the reopening. Something like a flurry, but not of the McDonald's kind where they throw in Crunchies and M&Ms.

Now, if the first issue was anything to go by, then Boys #2 should be up there with the brutal and roughness. Superheroes get no free run here and the scenes are just hog wild. Cork damn it's a fun read.

On another tangent and another stream is Kabuki #7. Where, if it does hit the shelf, continues on the weird trip through building a new life and telling that story in a variety of paints. Most of which aren't paint.

Another comic that would be only ever on the shelves rarely and less some is Doc Frankenstein #5. Can't remember a lick of the trick, but the pencils are Steve Skroce, and anything this guy does, bang it on the counter and wrap it up!

After the fall and in the super hero aftermath

Shop talk

Non-stop action as the crowds of people paid a visit on the very first day at the new larger location. Legs were on all day and the crew busy with keeping the flow moving like dollops of ice cream into tubs of yogurt and back again.

Fun?

Hopefully so, the atmosphere was sure ripe for it. A swelling to extremes of smiles and working that carpet burn like a house set on a partial fire blaze. One sale to pull them in like a phoenix reborn.

Phoenix reborn sale of 2006

On stand-by, a few of the super hero happy friends. Batman & Robin and Iron Man out front late in the day keeping the peace and making sure things were right and proper with the world.

Strutting with superheroes

Superman and even that kooky Space Ghost back inside helping out with the party.

One minute to go

Shop talk

Revving up the sorting and the shifting, not at all any more longer to go before opening up large and anew at the new store.

Finding Guffman

DVDs in racks, 18 inch action figures above the back issue bins, and the back issue bins to lose yourself in. It's different, it's big, it does smell pretty good.

(Guess the reference in the title of this entry.)

Comic Shop News #1000

Reviews

Any more unassuming than the 1000th issue of the comic newspaper staple to many of the first rush of weekly comics?

Probably possible.

With nothing more than the number and a little paragraph on the inside, it would seem as innocuous and as samey as any other week.

An extremely great run so far of cranking out the weekly foldie, all undone with the look of nothing out of the ordinary. Business as usual and still chugging along.

Counting down to two

Shop talk

Smell it!

Shelves are cleared and the action figures are off the hooks. Back issue bin is emptying raw with closer to nothing inside. The walls are naked and the posters are taking a sleep away from the blu-tac backing.

Ten days to go

The move is down and seriously under way, ready for the re-opening sale on Saturday at the new location next to the library. the Comic Shop is and for the next few hours before the last minutes of Friday night, a comic store with nothing but comics. Odd indeed.

Watch it large and live from 10:00 August 26.
