Back in track

Staff picks

Back to school all this week of February 2. That just means less space in the peak rides to work on the trains. Of those that need to ride the trains in the morning. Or in the afternoon. Not every has that burden upon them.

Speaking of, Exterminators #2 is perhaps an intriguing comic. Not quite sure. #1 is sitting under 30 others and with no look in for a look in any time real soon.

Same deal with Futurama Comics #23. Except in this case, the issues are pretty much stand alone with no need to follow up from the previos. Clean comics that. There is just something missing from the printed versions of Futurama. Can't quite pin it. And it's not the animation.

Invasion Day arrives for 2006

Staff picks

Doors to the Comic Shop will most certainly be closed for January 26. Public Holiday and all.

Others refer to it as Australia Day. Most of Australia does in fact. In any event, there's the hope that the shipment will hit the doors late on the Wednesday afternoon. If not, the Friday inbetween an otherwise perfectly good chance of a four day weekend.

Ultimate Spider-Man #89, the only thing from this week that will be sitting there for a pick up on Saturday.

Spider on the back of the neck

Staff picks

Looking down at January 19, it's pretty clear that if a certain article is supposed to hit an editor for it's time and relevancy, it should have been gone a few days before. No matter, these things always fail. And then there are comics to read in the wallow.

Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #4 is on the final lap for The Other a Spider-Man event others have chosen to either ignore totally or pick up every chapter of. Did anyone else just pick up the parts for one title and see how that was running?

Just read a satisfying end to #14, but Ex Machina #17, no idea what this issue is about. Picking it up because the past has yet to disappoint.

Keeping the fingers away

Staff picks

Might rain with intense humidity on the day of January 12 with the next load of comics and merchandise set to hit. Might just be stinking in a population of sweat.

Beck's Girl sounds like it's on skip and may very well be part of the whole sound of the track. Who knows? It might even be part of an alien invasion force come bearing DNA and more inventions to up the stakes since Velcro.

Whatever the case may be, nothing from this week's shipping list seems enticing enough. Such as it is, there are that many weeks in the year, and this is just one of them.

Bad Planet #1 - Image Comics

Reviews

Aliens getting their rocks off in about the same way as humans do and an ever present swinging cleavage mark this comic. Smelling powerful and rich in fibres from the printing press, there was little of anything that made the next issue a compelling read. Even this issue wasn't a time keeper of things for good. Posturing, playing around with dials and lights and that's about the extent of this episode. Feeling flat despite the nice dark wash of art and colours.

It all begins again, right here, right now

Staff picks

And here the madness starts for another year. Hopefully this shipment expected for January 5 will hit when it's expected. Not like the last two batches from last year. Crazy times weeding through two week's worth of comics and merchandise without more than a day to breathe.

Forget that though, it's time for some cracking Doc Frankenstein #4. The Wachowskis were a little delayed what with their V For Vendetta adaptation, but hey, a great comic's a great comic, and with the delay, it means the burning of money isn't as frequent.

Then there's The Exterminators #1. From the solicit, following the lives of pest hitmen seems intriguing, and almost interesting enough for a buy.

Astonishing X-Men Saga #1 looks like there wasn't a reason to buy the first twelve issues on Whedon and Cassaday's run. So then, what's the point?

On the edge, Marlene #1. Why in the hell did they all happen to look like number ones outside the freak with the bolts in his neck and stitches in his scalp?
