Doctor Strange: The Oath #3 - Marvel Comics

Things are in a real swing, with the trio of the Night Nurse, Wong and Doctor Strange working well together. Throw them down and into the situation they face currently, and it's like they're at their best in this particular incarnation.

Wonderfully visions of pseudo acid tripping moments from that particular time too close to the sun under the weak awning make an appearance in this mind spree. A veritable shuffle board game right into the heart of what makes Doctor Strange a smart and calmly cool character.

Mystic arts don't seem as fun and light-hearted and manically meshed too deep with the business world like it is here. A pause here and there working it like the little bitty push pig trying to save his pork rind of a hide.

There's a whisper in my ghost.

Here's a review of a little film that goes by the name Ghost in the Shell. Personally I don't think I should have to review it as everyone should have watched it or at least heard of it by now. Without a doubt, Ghost in the Shell is an title that changed anime forever.

The year is 2029. An secret Japanese Police division, Section Nine, investigates all facets of cybercrime. Major Kusanagi searches for a cyber criminal leading to a person known as the Puppet Master, a hacker who is capable of penetrating even the strongest of the world?s Internet firewalls. Most of the film is based on the link between body, mind and consciousness ? but not in a confusing "Matrix" way.

Astounding artwork and animation are accompanied by a deeply philosophical plot that comments on the importance of singular thought and the effect of technology on the body. The animation itself contains some beautiful CGI which co-exists the screen without detracting from the traditional animation.

The entire film is scored by Kenji Kawai conveying a hauntingly beautiful soundtrack utilizing traditional Japanese instruments with a futuristic flavour.

Ghost in the Shell is one of a select few anime titles that are responsible for a new wave of otaku being born and instantly hooked on the visually stylings and masterful story telling of modern anime.

All that aside, Ghost in the Shell is an absolute classic that must be watched by all. It looks super dooper cool and the action is butt-kickin!

If you haven't seen it yet go to the Comic Shop and buy it... NOW!

The Prestige

Throw in a film with Christian Bale, Hugh Jackman, Michael Caine and Scarlett Johansson with Christopher Nolan on directing duties. Slap the thick atmosphere and feel of the late 19th century with a lemon twist of magic and illusion, and it's hard to figure out how it can possibly disappoint. Pop in a bit of David Bowie and Andy Serkis and the climb gets a whole lot sweatier with The Prestige.

Two magicians at the top of their game and even that's not enough. The lengths at which they will go to to outdo each other beyond the realm of sanity is just unbearable and unflinchingly excruciating. Dedication, deception and deliverance.

The word d?nouement sounds really great with a French accent. Not that that has anything to do with anything. Really.

Bale hangs on a smooth Londoner's tongue that the setting is pretty much complete on his turn of the talk. Jackman is a crazily obsessive man that following him on his journey is one that breaks a bit of the heart. Watching these two face off against each other is well fine. A grand sense of magic alone in their scenes together.

Obsession never lets go and that sense of despair that permeates the side arm rests ultimately leaves the mind rattling away in a rather disturbed set after watching the burn and flicker.

Doctor Strange: The Oath #2 - Marvel Comics

Fine crippled hands of a surgeon are what makes for good spell casting. Only this time, for the sake of continuity, the good Strange Doctor is a neurosurgeon, never mind the plastic rubbing slapjockey. Still, the flashbacks here proves that no amount of tinkering will escape from the arrogance so embedded in his former life in the white coats and stethoscopes.

Events aren't yet moving like after a night hitting heavy on the dates, a prune salad and some chilli-flavoured fish-fingers for taste. Delving into the mind and matter of the make up of Doctor Strange, the distractions are clear enough to need only a single scan of said pages. Light carries across the beat of the drum with the dubious nature of things hiding in the shadows.

Dead on character accuracy and never once feeling like the pants needs a megadose of that baby oil for the slip on. Subtle jabs delight with the switch kick of statements taking the ear off without spotting the bleed, not too fast though. There are a few pauses and set ups which just read well enough to cast forth a chance for all.

So what is the Night Nurse's name anyhow?

Only $5 a meal? I'll take 3...

But by taking three I would be over my recommended daily intake of fat by 140%. And however would I fit into my Bat-tights?

The $5 value meal is just what it claims to be. It is a meal and it has a monetary cost of 5 of your earth dollars.

The meal consists of a cheeseburger, medium fries, medium coke and a choice of apple pie or ice cream sundae for an after meal snack.
YUM!

I am a big fan of this meal. Not only is it able to fill a belly comparable to the Blob's. But coming in at $5 means that I have much more money to spend on comics...

And coming in at and average of 60 grams of fat you can indulge yourself and have half a muffin for breakfast or a single tub of yogurt for brunch whilst not going over your RDI of fat for the day.

Although I still argue the fact, who in Hades eats pickles?

Veronica #175 - Archie Comics

Watching the plans fall into the allotted slots in the first story just hangs a direction into a well known path. Creaking over into the punch line panel and it's a raw feeling to know where the dirty foot prints were leading. All in the mud and the consistency of the step, the weaving in and out for the course is interesting. If not over a page too many. Damn, it's all there in the title of the story after all.

Taste a bit of the sorbet and a pirate in the mix seems perfunctory. The flatness of the end coming up to bring it right home with the third story in the issue. And it's where the issue really nicks in a favour for what is a good old story. Veronica's solution to her public speaking problem is revelatory. Perhaps this Archie fella should be used as much as he's using the Betty/Archie/Veronica triad. Sure works for Veronica in this situation.
