Chasing some back issue dragons

Shop talk

Friday night and there's this lingering sense of cold in the air. For those with actual heating, curse you to diced bits of liver in a dipping bowl of tartar sauce. Mmm, that's actually good eatin'

As is looking for a back issue of a comic you've been chasing and then finding it. Of course, part of the hunt is the searching involved and if that isn't tautology, these aren't questions cobbled together into a clump of togetherness. Like waffles on a loose iron.

...chasing issue number 2 of the Lone Ranger...

...looking to get copies of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer comics 'Long Way Home Parts 1-3' out on Dark Horse...

...Do you have a copy of Batman: Face the Face?...

...I'm trying to hunt down a copy of Eastman and Laird's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #13, published by Archie...

Do you have any in stock?

For those just out of stepping-on-to-a-train or catching-a-ride-otherwise range, best bet is actually to either call up the store on 9601 2622 or email through.

Either way, things might take a bit of time trying to track them down if they're even in the shop. Not counting those which might be sold out or gone for others to have bought under your nose hairs.

Back issues being what they are, they might be there one day, but gone the next as a result of someone else coming in to take them up from the issues.

When in doubt, ask. After all, there's enough tartar for everyone.

That is until the muncher comes along and wipes out the buffet. And then there isn't any more.

At world's end with ultimate wonder

Shop talk

Clearly things are amiss in the world of shot deadlines and comic books lying face down in a damp area of the kitchen table tops. Where the hope of not having to read the next issue comes from not even seeing it appear on the shelf to tempt the wallets before sitting read with the rest of them.

And so it is, a most strange occurrence as All Star Batman And Robin The Boy Wonder #5 from DC Comics and Ultimates 2 #13 from Marvel finally hit the shelves.

Months? Or years? Since the last issue between the latest and the previous, who knows any more of the story inside and how fractured the leap between. One thing they have going for them is at least the collection factor. Not a fan personally, but it is interesting to watch them continue to pick up.

Ludicrous fold out in the Ultimates is beyond comprehension and still does not quite explain the need for such a long delay between issues. Kind of forgot about these two titles even running with their no show. Next season, maybe a sighting of a new Battle Chasers issue.

And all that build up leaves a bad taste in the mouth after licking the back of the cane toads what make their hitch trips down from Queensland.

Strange wonders

Staff picks

September 15 and there is nothing left in the week for that to pass. Planets will move about and do all whatever they do do. Others will have hard times finding time to read up on comics that grow every time they take to sleeping.

The first issue is all very, kick-in-the-teeth-coolness, and the last line about "You've just been recruited into a war" is so very macho. So All Star Batman and Robin The Boy Wonder #2 should continue the theme of people walking around kicking people in the teeth, no? Or is that some other comic?

Once spotted an Emily the Strange book somewhere in the many days and ways across the city. Emily The Strange #1 doesn't really register as being the same Emily. Perhaps it was another Emily altogether?

On the next zombie tale coming from New Orleans, a buffet! And what timing for Hunger #4 as the whole Louisiana location gets more and more wasted by the day. Hey, that was a good scene in the phone booth. All sweet and caring and all. And all that blood and brains to boot. Everybody's a winner.

Pulsating nothings

Staff picks

With the shipment coming on July 28, nothing screams for a chance to part with the money. Nothing really different anyway.

Pulse House Of M Special edition #1 will get a look see given the pricing, cheap filler it should be. Hopefully this would be all that's needed to be kept appraised of the House of M crossover bonanza in the Marvel realm.

Does Amazing Spider-Man #522 seem as interesting as it could be? No telling what if at all.

Missed All Star Batman and Robin, The Boy Wonder #1 the first time? Perhaps a chance at missing it a second time, flushing them out off the shelves like nothing's keeping them, would be in order.

Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere #2 might be good. If reading #1 was in order and done with on the few weeks back that it came out. Just in time for that Gaiman signing at Galaxy Books in the city last week. Missed that one on the bakery ticket. Art's looking nice though.

Dead in the head, better be read

Staff picks

July 14 finally sees the launch of DC's answer to Marvel's Ultimate line. Opening the canons with All Star Batman And Robin The Boy Wonder #1 the logo that would make it seem as though it is all about the Boy Wonder, guest starring the Bats.

From the initial solicitations, Small Gods Special was supposed to have been an all colour affair. Now, it's just back to the plain black and white of the regular series. Shouldn't do much to dent the otherwise fine storybook dealing with psychics as cops.

There is talk of nasty action with cows in the pages of Zombie King #0. With art from Frank Cho, it'll surely look fantastic. So that's a definite looker.
