Starting to feel the mutant ooze

Shop talk

Feeling the smooth coat of radioactive ooze wash over the face, it's a startling read to see the quick entries thus far swimming in for the Ninja Turtles giveaway.

Only eight hours after the notice of the start and the speed is picking up a steady pace. Interesting to note that there are a few people who don't sleep between the hours of 01:30 and 06:00 or if they were sleeping, know how to program their bodies to sleep-email and enter competitions.

That's an impressive skill if ever there was one for a comper. To never end with the onslaught of emails and form entries for the multitude of competitions and giveaways that exist.

Don't know what that would do for the entry:win ratio. Can't be good as there's always an eventual petering out and plateau on the horizon.

And that's from experience.

Anaesthesia for the amputee thanks

Shop talk

Thank you for the music, the songs we're singing, what would life be... and with that, well, hours ago really, the end of the event known as the February sale.

Last ever, as in no more, and it's done. To death, with no sunshine further in the end of the month that is St Valentine's own four week stretch of marketing moola. Hence the cut and slicing of a limb mentioned on flyers and the like.

Farewell and bye-bye where the mascot chosen, Wolverine from the Age of Apocalypse universe, is much easier to render than the blinding initial vision in the mist of rain.

Apparently, the image of one of the many zombies littering the fields of corpses, with limbs adroppin' leper like, not the clearest of a bright and future meaning. Oh, but the things you'll see when you walk the night across town with the brains and guts dragging behind, tagging along a little dog that just won't stop yapping.

Last ever February sale at the Comic Shop

Next up and to clear the calendar to make an appearance at, the very much anticipated August birthday sale. Wherein the Comic Shop will have notched a full year at the new location next to the Liverpool library.

Be there. Or be there the next day.

Yakuza, In-Mates, Zombies... What's Not to Love?

Reviews

If Shaun of the Dead is known as a Rom Zom Com, Versus, directed by Ryuhei Kitamura, should be classified as a Rom Zom Com Mar SciFi Fant Act... A romantic zombie comedy filled with martial arts, sci fi, fantasy and action up the proverbial wahzoo! In fact I would go so far as to just call it nuts!!!

As a comparison, Versus is best described as a raucous mish mash of Peter Jackson’s Brain Dead, Sam Raimi's Evil Dead Trilogy and Shinsuke Sato's Princess Blade with a liberal dose of Sony PlayStation style videogame-esque action. In certain parts of the film I felt as though I was watching a cut scene from the Capcom favourite, Devil May Cry.

The acting in this film isn't the best, although in a film that doesn't take itself too seriously this isn't always a negative. Tak Sagaguchi plays the lead as our dark, brooding ex-inmate KSC2-303. Throughout the film he takes it upon himself to shoot, punch, kick, hack and slash the heck out of as many new inductees into the "Forrest of Resurrection's" zombie fraternity. He does this with the help of a trusty six shooter and a mysterious sword with a laser sight... see... nuts!

Versus

The soundtrack to Versus is just as hyper active and frantic as the film itself. Thumping electro/metal and industrial beats permeate the action scenes with little disturbance although does little to build suspense.

The movie is crazy and that is exactly why I loved it. It was simple yet confusing, amateur yet polished and ... just NUTS!

If you are an action fan, a horror fan or just keen on a laugh give Versus a watch.

Versus has been released by Madman's live action Asian cinema arm Eastern Eye and is available at the Comic Shop now!
