The All New Atom #1; Written by Gail Simone, art by John Byrne and Trevor Scott, cover by Ariel Olivetti
There's a changing of the guard and with the new Atom, it's even a changing of the race. Teacher is gone and it's now over to the student to take over the role of slightly diminishing turns.
The startling adventures of the new Atom begin in this series based on concepts developed by comics superstar Grant Morrison, written by Gail Simone (VILLAINS UNITED) with Art by John Byrne (ACTION COMICS) and Trevor Scott (THE AUTHORITY) and gorgeous covers by Ariel Olivetti (SPACE GHOST)!
Strange things have been happening in Ivy Town since Ray Palmer disappeared. In fact, it appears that the whole town's been experimented on for decades.
Enter Ryan Choi - the young hotshot professor who's filling the empty slot on Ivy University's teaching staff... and who inadvertently ends up filling the old Atom's super-heroic shoes!
Can Choi make a difference in a town more creepy and mysterious than anyone ever realized? And can he live up to the towering legend of his predecessor?
Gold theme this anniversary,
Battler Briton is a five parter from Wildstorm/DC Comics. Hitler, Nazis, the War sequel, it's all in October 1942.
Also from DC,
OMAC.
Returning for a second volume,
Death Jr from Image Comics.
Rosario Dawson, Image Comics and 12 Gauge hit the ghoulies with
Occult Crimes Taskforce.
A Marvel Comics battle royale (with cheese) in the pages of
Beyond. Where all and some of the hidden few (such as Gravity and The Hood) are dumped onto a planet and left to fight against each other.
Who knows what to make of
Vampirella Revelations Book 2 Prototype Edition from Harris Comics.
Sir Richard Branson kicks into the comics scene with
Virgin Comics. First out of the blasting blocks is
Devi. Created by Shekhar Kapur it's about the warrior goddess Devi who fights the fight out of everyone's sight.
Devil's Due Publishing sees another of the
Dragonlance Chronicles hitting the public's eyes like a dragon's spit on roast.
Avatar Press continues with the horror movie flavour in the Fearbook pages of
Friday The 13th, Nightmare On Elm St and
Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Gory, gory, gory.
Transformers: Evolutions Hearts Of Steel from IDW Publishing throws the Autobots and Decepticons into our age of the Industrial Revolution. Bumblebee happens to be a steam drill in this. As slightly odd as being on Mars.
Dark Horse are taking the grit and roughness to another level for the Cimmerian in
Conan And The Songs Of The Dead. A five part series beginning in the wretched wastes of Stygia.
From Desperado and Image Comics, comes
Sidekick. Dirt pay as a sidekick for one superhero prompts Eddie Edison to gig as sidekicks for other superheroes. It's like running around having four jobs at once.

Lex Luthor mini bust - Superman Returns - DC Direct - sculpted by Gentle Giant Studios
Flying back into the realm of superheroes,
Superman Returns today opens across the silver screens nationwide.
After an unexplained absence, Kal-El, the last son of Krypton, makes his way back to the Earth he has chosen to protect.
Hot on his case, the ever maniacal and ruthless, Lex Luthor. Seen here with what either appears to be a kryptonite dagger or cigar. Either way, getting it close to Superman will render him powerless and ill. It's Superman's only weakness and leaves the man of steel feeling like a sheet of aluminium foil.
During the
filming of the movie, Kevin Spacey (as Luthor) was known to drive around on the lot with a Superman death buggy and shouting, "Superman must die!" Brandon Routh (Clark Kent), on first seeing this, was shocked and a little worried. After all, it's not every day you have Prot declaring he's out to kill you.
Will Superman be bested by Luthor once and for all in this... you're going to watch it any way, who's kidding who?

DCU: Brave New World; written and illustrated by various writers and artists, cover by Ariel Olivetti
Undergoing the reality smashing after effects of super heroes going nuts, the DC Universe continues to warp and bend in and upon itself. From the smoking aftermath, slew on slew of tangents and new/old series reappearing and disappearing...
In 2005, DC set the stage for INFINITE CRISIS with the unbelievable $1.00 special COUNTDOWN TO INFINITE CRISIS. Now, DC presents an equally crucial 80-page one-shot specially priced at just $1.00, giving fans the opportunity to sample six new projects set to debut in July and August!
BRAVE NEW WORLD includes original stories that act as a preview for the following books:
MARTIAN MANHUNTER by A.J. Lieberman (Harley Quinn, Gotham Knights), with art by Al Barrionuevo and Bit (Gotham Knights)
OMAC by Bruce Jones (Year One: Batman/Scarecrow, Nightwing, THE Warlord) with art by Renato Guedes (Adventures of Superman)
UNCLE SAM AND THE FREEDOM FIGHTERS by Justin Gray and Jimmy Palmiotti (Jonah Hex, Hawkman) with art by Daniel Acu?a (Outsiders, JLA covers)
THE CREEPER by Steve Niles (BATMAN: GOTHAM COUNTY LINE) with art by Justiniano and Walden Wong (Day of Vengeance)
THE ALL-NEW ATOM by Gail Simone (Birds of Prey, Villains United) with art by John Byrne (BLOOD OF THE DEMON) and Trevor Scott (THE AUTHORITY)
THE TRIALS OF SHAZAM! by Judd Winick (Batman, Green Arrow) with art by Howard Porter (JLA).
Don't miss the chance to get in on the ground floor of these six exciting new series! Plus, witness the shocking return of a character you never thought you'd see again!
Of course, it's a strange week where there is only one brand new debut series. Odd indeed.
Brought to you by the folks who worked on the live-action series back in the 90s,
Flash: The Fastest Man Alive from DC Comics. It's the Flash and he's back. But it's not the Flash that's back. It's another Flash that's back. If this is another Flash at all that is.
Image Comics shoot the sky with a fist full of dynamite and usher
Casanova. Promises of
intrigue and a complete in issue story abound.
Star Wars Legacy from Dark Horse comics is an all-new series set a century or more after ROTJ of the original trilogy. Follow on, roll on, move on.
Ten years on for that blue spinning hedgehog and
Sonic X hits its tenth issue to boot! Grab it from Archie Comics if you dare. Do you dare?

Clark Kent mini bust - Superman Returns - DC Direct - sculpted by Gentle Giant Studios
More than just a quick and easy way for the second fastest man alive to change from one outfit to another, wearing a suit underneath another suit has it's warming benefits. Especially in the colder months.
With a full body length costume keeping him warm, Clark Kent can easily slip out of his alter-ego into his true identity of Superman without the need for a dressing room.
Such is the reason behind quick changing in increasingly rare phone booths, revolving door entrances and back alley ways.
For the average individual, it would be like walking around in long johns. Underwear of choice for many who use an outhouse to do business in. Or for those whom the winter months take a particularly harsh attitude toward.
Superman Returns opens June 29 for all those looking to check out a dapper application of the style.

Superman Returns In Flight statue - DC Direct
Superman Returns returns with Superman at the end of the financial year. June 29 to be pretty close on the money.
Taking up the newly dusted clean mantle of the man of steel is
Brandon Routh to fill the mighty boots and
don the red cape.
This will be the fifth starring Kal-El and is basically a continuation of the first two films starring the late Christopher Reeve. Which means the second and third sequels,
Superman III and
Superman IV: The Quest For Peace, never really happened.
What did happen and while Supes was away, is that
Cyclops (
James Marsden/Richard White) and Lois were busy raising a baby they made together. Apparently the man of steel went off to check out the remains of Krypton.
Well, now he's back.

Wonder Woman #1; written by Allan Heinberg, art and cover by Terry Dodson and Rachel Dodson
Currently somewhere in the midst of pre-pre-production, Joss Whedon just turned in the script to the Wonder Woman feature film. Far from anything solid yet, actresses with names and histories are reportedly jumping all over trying to land the role. Probably won't happen if casting another "unknown" is in the cards.
Until the big screen, and after that little
neck breaking incident, Diana Prince makes it back from the wilds in the comics...
One year after the execution of Maxwell Lord and the earth-shattering events of INFINITE CRISIS, the DCU is still struggling to come to terms with its most powerful heroine. Is she a martyr or a murderer? A politician or a super hero?
Writer Allan Heinberg (Young Avengers, JLA, TV's The O.C. and Sex and the City) and artists Terry & Rachel Dodson (Marvel Knights: Spider-Man, Harley Quinn) provide surprising answers, giving Wonder Woman a fresh, sexy look and a bold new direction!
The series begins with the multi-part "Who Is Wonder Woman?" story arc, paying homage to the character's distinguished history while placing her firmly in the present with an all-new supporting cast, a brand-new mission, and a renewed sense of wonder.
A treat for longtime fans and a perfect jumping-on point for new readers, Wonder Woman #1 features the icon you know and love as you've never seen her before!
Marvel Comics unleash the embedded reporters to the
Civil War: Front Line. A ten part series down in the trenches of the Superhero Registration Act. Nothing to do with trademarks.
Yo, Joe, it's
GI Joe: Declassified from the bases of Devil's Due Publishing. Long time scribe Larry Hama comes back to work with the classic 80s troop.
It's an intergalactic battle between science and magic in the pages of
Manifest Eternity from Wildstorm Comics. Welcome to the future.
Slipping from the cracks of the Image 10th Anniversary Hardcover comes
Cyberforce. The origin issue breaking out the whole team raw.
In a galaxy far, far away, it's more than a hundred years since
Return of the Jedi. In Dark Horse's
Star Wars: Legacy. Jedi Forces hold onto hope with the last remaining heir to the Skywalker legacy. Everything you know, but nothing that you do.
