Invisible Woman - Silver Age Fantastic Four diorama series - Diamond Select Toys - sculpted by Jeff Feligno
Hands up in the air in surrender in the grasp of the Mole Man's subterranean monster. Sue Richards, aka the Invisible Woman, is shocked into glass with an overall look of fear.
Fear not for the impending doom upon her life, nor of the destruction of the city in this replication of
Fantastic Four #1. No, look closely. Look at the monstrous hands of the monster holding Sue.
Who knows where those hands have been? Especially given that while under the employ of the Mole Man, the environment for work is not known for much lighting. Indeed, with all the dirt and grim under the belly of the city, hygiene may be one of the furthest things from the mind.
Eating one of the members of the Fantastic Four may be out of the question. Better to die beaten to death at the hands of a family of super heroes than by ingesting a handful of natty fingernail bacteria.

Wolverine Hellfire Club diorama - Dynamic Forces - (Uncanny X-Men #129-134) - sculpted by Clayburn Moore
Best there is at what he does -- whatever that happens to be -- even Wolverine would not be able to walk on an airplane sporting nail clippers. Outside the need to gloss, lacquer and sparkle for the women and metrosexuals, leaving them on for far too long can have dire consequences.
Finding bits of
food stuck under the toenails and dirt riding the rails of the fingers being just one.
Forget to trim the nails for a few years and things can get
slightly out of hand.
Stressed and with nothing to gnaw? Knuckles are the new nails. Leave the fingernails to the
ants for food.
If knives or blades don't come jutting out from the back of your hands, there are other ways to shorten the nails without having to resort to eating or buying a new pair of nail clippers.
Sandpaper, scissors, garden shears and smooth cement are just a few options available for people short on spending. Experiment. Fingernails will grow back. Most of the time.
Hands, however, less so.
