Sam Noir: Samurai Detective #1 (of 3); story by Eric Anderson and Manny Trembley, art and cover by Manny Trembley
Snow drops from the skies like a man shaking his head of dandruff and the hammy dialogue runs a pound for the nickel in the soft shoe. Noir, the kind that makes the black and white movies all the more worth it at 3am on a deadline.
Difference here is that instead of guns and flatfoots, samurais, ninjas and ronin take the streets and cases. Tracking down their charges and looking at things through hazy cigar smoke.
"PAYBACK IS A NICHE"
On the third floor of a cluttered low-rent office, Sam Noir met his destiny. Destiny wore a dress, and she was the best thing to walk into Sam's life-right up until they snuffed her out, that is. They nixed his betty, and now he's gonna nix them. Once he finds out who "they" are.
Sam Noir: Samurai Detective
Arcade Comics may very well be on the shelf this week. Who knows. If indeed, then it'll be in the form of a refresher flip book with
Suprema #1/Supreme Sacrifice #0 and
NitroGen: Prophet. Credits may include Robert Kirkman, Rob Liefeld, Brandon Thomas and Jon Malin. Who knows though.
Over at IDW Publishing, Simon Furman and Nick Roche twist the lights and shine it on a Decepticon in
Transformers: Spotlight Shockwave. Guest stars the Dinobots.
Another from the company with the light bulb for a logo,
Super Deluxe Hero Happy Hour Lost Episode. Returning to The Hideout Bar & Grill with Dan Taylor and Chris Fason, includes interviews with the cast, out takes and blooper scenes.

Hardcovers and trade paperbacks
Pass the word around for there is movement at the station. We're moving the store.
After twelve years at 207 George Street, Liverpool, the fine establishment known to you and all yours as
the Comic Shop will be pulling up and stretching out to newer, bigger digs.
From the end of August onwards, the new address and location will be next to the library. You can start looking up the new address of
10a/170 George Street today.
Things to expect from the new store:
- Double the footprint - bursting the breeches, the major reason for the move is that there will be more space for the comics, toys, action figures, busts and statues to breathe.
- Massive back issue bins - with space comes more room and that more is where you can dive in and get lost in a myriad of back issues galore.
- Air conditioning - sweet sweat, that's right. The new store will be air conditioned for comfort.
- Something special - know the feeling when you're clearing house and you come across that strange toy or trinket? We're betting on having more than just a couple pop up.
Celebrating this move, we're holding a store wide sale at the new store location. Specials you can slip over will include:
- 50% off all back issues
- 25-50% off all statues, busts and merchandise
- 25-50% off all trade paperbacks and hard covers
It's on the August weekend of
Saturday 26 and Sunday 27. Times for the open doors will be standard.
Disclaimer: Back issues up for the discounts are in bags and boards. Anything in the standing order, lay-bys, current and recent release stock are excluded from the discounts.
Come down, check it out and smell the new.

Emissary #1; written by Jason Rand, art and cover by Juan E. Ferreyra, created and co-plotted by Jim Valentino
Looking at the values and perception of those with superpowers, it's the question of what the real world would do in the face of such a being. Such is the concept and basic line behind
Emissary from Image Comics.
Messiah or Anti-Christ? Terrorist or savior? The world's first superhuman or alien invader? Who is the Emissary and what is his mission? When he reveals himself high over New York City, how will people react? And more importantly, what will he do when the government tries to kill him?
Emissary is a re-examination of the superhero mythos, which asks the question: How would the world react to a real superhuman? With awe or with fear, with joy or with hatred?
Carnage descends upon a town as zombies and blood thirsty crims hit out and start the dripping in
Zombies! : Feast from IDW Publishing.
Dynamite Entertainment, the company that brought back Red Sonja and later on with Xena, deliver a cheap sneak to
Battlestar Galactica. An entire zero issue before the actual one. It's like counting from the ground up if you're standing a little in the dirt.
Every thing dead is fodder for the future as DC Comics usher,
Crisis Aftermath: The Spectre. Back now with a new host, but one that doesn't seem too willing to join. Like trying to avoid the chuggers.
Aiming to bring some no-holds barred action back to the black and white of comics, IDW are hitting with
Cobb: Off The Leash. Doing the world a favour because it's the right thing to do.

The Last Christmas #1 (of 6); written by Gerry Duggan and Brian Posehn, art by Rick Remender and Hilary Barta
Wrapped up and sent with "Happy Christmas!" on the cover, the mood is ripe for taking on the old standards. Of July, December and all the months in between, a war is on and as always, there are never enough presents to go around.
Chapter One: "Twas The Fight Before Christmas"
After the apocalypse no one is safe - even at the North Pole. After tragedy strikes, Santa withdraws from life and turns his back on Christmas. When he finally emerges from seclusion, the old world is gone forever and as Santa struggles to find his way in a post-apocalyptic world, can he find a way to save Christmas too?
This true story of the last Christmas is action-packed, funny and sad. It stars Santa, the Elves, a good boy, lots of naughty marauders and of course, Gary the Snowman.
The Last Christmas from Image Comics.
Bits of this, bits of that, it's like grabbing blind from the lolly stand from Target when reading anthologies. Image Comics and Desperado Publishing bring back
Negative Burn, "the most eccentric anthology in the history of comics."
Spilling out from a band of united villains, the
Secret Six from DC Comics walks the line. Between the departments of good and evil, not even a hairy slick of the man in black as they take on the North Koreans to rescue one of their own.
From Dabel Bros Productions comes an adaptation of
Orson Scott Card's Wyrms. Kings, beasts, science fiction and a good old fashioned throne tussle. Leave the seat up or down?
Avatar continue slapping on the faces for Leatherface in
Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Grind.
Alias Enterprises rides with the
Valkyries. A series where a young valkyrie lets less than the strong and most powerful dead warriors enter the hallowed halls of Valhalla.
The Lamb Without Blemish himself takes on the forces of the fanged ones in Image Comics'
Loaded Bible: Jesus vs Vampires. Jesus fights Vampires. What else? A
pontiff dishing the duty?
Stepping more than just on the outside of being,
Shrugged from Aspen. A psychological adventure that is not quite the usual fare from the people who deliver the worlds of Soulfire and Fathom.
For a lean, mean, fighting machine of a book... (brain not included),
Thrud The Barbarian from Thrud Comics.

Truth, Justin and the American Way #1 (of 5); written by Scott Kurtz and Aaron Williams, art by Guiseppe Ferrario
Forget moving too far forward without looking back. The eighties will never leave. Stained on the back of the pants, more than just the shatter force of a night in the freezer will unlock those curly leg warmers.
On the shoulder pads from the goofy and optimistic nature of wholesome classic eighties shows...
It's an all-American tale: Boy meets girl, boy proposes to girl, boy accidentally gets super-suit - boy, is he in trouble! When Justin J. Cannell accidentally comes into possession of a spacesuit that grants its wearer amazing abilities, his simple life gets very complicated. Can Justin make it to the altar despite his loser friends, overbearing boss, demanding fiancee and the FBI agent who's convinced he's a Russian spy?
Brought to you by Scott Kurtz (PvP), Aaron Williams (PS238, Nodwick) and introducing the amazing art of Italian super-star Guiseppe Ferrario.
And it shows.
Dark Horse continue the deodorant application with
Conan: Book of Thoth. Looking for the down low on Thoth-amon's origin's? Right here. Nappies will be on sale else where.
Spike vs. Dracula from the loins of IDW expound in the rivalry between Dracula and Spike. All over the death of a couple of gypsies (them what cursed Angel back in the day). And apparently eleven quid.
Dynamite Entertainment resurrect
Painkiller Jane. Where Jane gets nasty with the richest families in the NYC area. And not in the sweaty version without bullets and dead bodies and payback. Whichever one that is.
Red Sonja /Claw The Unconquered: Devil's Hands sees Dynamite and DC Comics get in bed together. Out come of the relation happens to be a crossover. Possibly with sweat in this version, and lots of fur cladding warriors.
(Fur is bad.)
