Lex Luthor mini bust - Superman Returns - DC Direct - sculpted by Gentle Giant Studios
Flying back into the realm of superheroes,
Superman Returns today opens across the silver screens nationwide.
After an unexplained absence, Kal-El, the last son of Krypton, makes his way back to the Earth he has chosen to protect.
Hot on his case, the ever maniacal and ruthless, Lex Luthor. Seen here with what either appears to be a kryptonite dagger or cigar. Either way, getting it close to Superman will render him powerless and ill. It's Superman's only weakness and leaves the man of steel feeling like a sheet of aluminium foil.
During the
filming of the movie, Kevin Spacey (as Luthor) was known to drive around on the lot with a Superman death buggy and shouting, "Superman must die!" Brandon Routh (Clark Kent), on first seeing this, was shocked and a little worried. After all, it's not every day you have Prot declaring he's out to kill you.
Will Superman be bested by Luthor once and for all in this... you're going to watch it any way, who's kidding who?

Lex Luthor: Man of Steel #1; Written by Brian Azzarello, art and cover by Lee Bermejo
Lex Luthor, one of the most powerful men in Metropolis, is fuming. Again. Luthor, while making a leisurely walking pace toward a fixed camera, was disrupted as the focus of the lens was taken over by the red, blue and yellow of Superman. Particularly taken aback by the massive inclusion of the alien's arm, Luthor was heard to curse a string of obscenities drowned out by the racket of hair pulling from the director of photography.
Taking yet another chance to steal the spotlight, the last son of Krypton once again foiled the plans of the well-to-do-what-exactly billionaire. On set reports confirm that the "follicularly-challenged" businessman was at the time delivering the opening monologue to an examination of Superman.
The appearance of Superman on Luthor's photo location may serve as deflection and distraction over an ever-running court case. At stake and issue -- with a side of onions and fries -- is the party conflict over who will determine Sunday visitation rights. As the
Siegel and DC battle wages on, Superman's adventures will continue to be highlighted in the many, many avenues available.
