12 step trials of Shazam

Not the HSC and nothing to do with the swig. It's all about keeping magic in check, a smashed rock and promotions all around in the family of Captain Marvel.

That's DC by the way, where the universe is in on itself and it's up to Billy Batson to step up to the plate and order a nice healthy breakfast.

Acclaimed writer Judd Winick (OUTSIDERS, GREEN ARROW) redefines the mighty Captain Marvel in a 12-issue maxiseries featuring a stunning new art style for fan-favorite illustrator Howard Porter (THE FLASH, JLA)!

The world is in magical turmoil as Captain Marvel tries to keep everything under control in the aftermath of the events of DAY OF VENGEANCE. And with the rest of the Marvel Family powerless, it's all up to him - unless some drastic changes occur fast. Luckily, everything changes by this issue's end!

From Basement Comics comes Cavewoman Jungle Jam swinging by and with Paul Renaud on the other vine.

Rumour monger Rich Johnston takes a dirt nap in CSI: Dying In The Gutters. On the case with IDW and the CSI crew, Steven Grant and Stephen Mooney in the one-shot.

Frank Cho, Doug Murray and Homs slash it on with Dynamite Entertainment to bring Savage Red Sonja: Queen of the Frozen Wastes. There's no better outfit than a chain mail bikini to head off into the frozen north side, and that's just exactly what happens in this of the four part series.

Double Dynamite as Battlestar Galactica heads into the new series. Greg Pak and Nigel Raynor are stowaways on Galactica as they sandwich themselves in tales between seasons of the reincarnated show.

On a DC flight, Chuck Dixon and Gordon Purcell hope on board with Snakes On A Plane. An adaptation to sit back and relax with in a suit filled with cheese and big grins.

Spellgame making out with a game of spells

Magic is a world full of con artists. A realm of illusions and a mansion full of lies built upon the bones of deceit and deception. Magic makes the most of people and the least of their money.

Con artist, grifter and stage magician John Dodge lives by three simple rules: Never give a sucker an even break; Never con a con man; and above all, Know Your Limits.

But his life, his rules, and maybe his sanity are turned upside down when magic -- real magic -- starts seeping into the world. Because Dodge is one of the few who instinctively know how to use it.

But you could hardly call his new abilities a gift -- not when they make Dodge the target of far more powerful magical forces. And when even his own deck of cards turns against him, he has to face the fact that he's not running the con anymore, and the game he's playing is as deadly as they come.

Bright city night lights and a game as deadly as they come? Sounds like Russian roulette no? Pick a red, get ahead; pick a black, set you back. Click that round, set you down.

Or what of cards that turn against you? Credit not up to scratch? Forgot your PIN one too many times? Who knows with magic.

Magician finds self in myxomatosis debate

Seven Soldiers: Zatanna #1 (of 4); Written by Grant Morrison, art by Ryan Sook and Mick Gray
DC's sorceress supreme, Zatanna Zatara, has unwittingly found herself in the middle of an anti-myxomatosis versus pro-myxomatosis battle over the population control of rabbits. Honing an age old magic trick of pulling out a white rabbit from a top hat, Zatara -- daughter of John Zatara and Sindella and a reputed descendant of Leonard da Vinci -- soon found her quarters filling up with the lagomorphs.

As the act scurried wildly out of control, the enchantress found herself ambushed by a pack of publicity hungry photographers armed with their telescopic lenses and flash bulbs. Under the glare and sudden capture, red-eye reduction methods were of no aid against a mammal whose eyes stain red like the morning after a heavy bender.

With the facility based off an island near Themyscira, it's not clear how the sudden population explosion of the rabbits will affect the environment. Assurances that the rabbits are all merely temporary constructs doing little to abate worries of the cabbage patch kids.

What started out as a mere profile boost in the vein of I'm a Celebrity - Get Me Out of Here! and Reborn in the USA now sees two sides of a debate pitted against each other by its very definition.

Skull of flames on coat hanger proves spellbinding

Fifteen-year-old Kim Vesco caused quite a stir when she shocked her teacher and classmates at a recent show-and-tell. At her new high school in Salem, Mass., the teenager stunned the room with the display of a family owned and crafted coat hanger, topped with candles on a skull.

Amazingly enough, with the smoke detectors having only been recharged in the Daylight Savings crossover, not a single beep or chirp was heard from overhead. Licking high up toward the ceiling, the flames jumped and danced atop the candles without managing a hint of danger from the fire alarm system.

With the student body divided into witches and non-witches, the classroom showing by the one time Chicago resident has set of a flame of conjecture. Is she a witch with flame-retardant clothes, or merely an illusionist, with a gothic sense of style? With the signal unclear, both factions are eagerly vying for her allegiance and attention. Only time will tell which will win out.

Here's a picture of the Green Lantern book ends in store. Grab it before the next person does. You don't want to miss out like you could with the comic itself.
