Spider-Man/Red Sonja #1 (of 5); written by Michael Avon Oeming, pencils by Mel Rubi, cover by Michael Turner
Spider-Man and Red Sonja, on a roof top, in those kinds of outfits? Certainly not winter where they are right now...
The wise-cracking Wall-Crawler collides with the She-Devil with a Sword! Longtime Marvel readers know that these two legends have met before -- but that was just the warm-up! They may be from two different eras, but Spider-Man and Red Sonja have both faced the maniacal mage known as Kulan Gath. Now the sadistic sorcerer makes a play for power that will once again bring these two famous heroes together -- but will it be as friends or foes?
Writer Michael Avon Oeming (OMEGA FLIGHT, Red Sonja) and Mel Rubi (Red Sonja) -- plus series cover artist Michael Turner (CIVIL WAR) -- answer the eternal question: What's better in a fight, the proportional strength and speed of a spider, or cold, hard steel and a chain-mail bikini?
Spider-Man/Red Sonja #1 (of 5) from Marvel Comics
Speaking of others clad in a bikini, though not of the metal and instead of the furry kind,
Shanna The She-Devil: Survival of the Fittest. Jimmy Palmiotti, Justin Gray and Khari Evans on four points for the series with modern day pirates, though no hint of the latest albums before release or the simultaneous look see of movies out now. Modern day!
Pirates be coursing about now with
Peter the Pirate Squid from Roman Dirge and Steven Daily. Eight legs and a patch over an eye a pirate squid make.
Drop those Rs right now with the
Hewoes from Bill Maus to come parody the day. Yes, on that show with those mutants and the Japanese kid who loves reading X-Men comics.
Evil comes round for a little visit and it's with Derek Ruiz and Dawid Straus on the
Legend Of Isis looking to see if they can survive the onslaught. Teeth radiated from the phone feel chattery.
All over with the clangy clang with Duncan Rouleau and
Metal Men. Eight bolts to nut down and they're up against a rather big French fry.
Big shoulders, tiny waists and a white picket fence with
Iron and the Maiden. Jason Rubin, Francis Manapul and Joel Gomez in a world of mobsters looking for love, revenge and a second chance.
Took a hint of glint in the eye the other day. And like the painting red on the house, it's a snap for the
First Born from Ron Marz and Stjepan Sejic. Sara Pezzini, the one time wielder of the Witchblade, now ready to be popping child.
Hardcover of the week
So nice we spot it twice. Grab a hold of
Immortal Iron Fist Volume 1: The Last Iron Fist Story Premiere in the hardcover format from Matt Fraction, Ed Brubaker, David Aja and Travel Foreman and chi that block out into smithereens. Say it again, "smithereens"! Now that's a great word.

Countdown #51; written by Paul Dini, art by Jesus Saiz, covers by Andy Kubert and Tim Townshend
52 is done and out but the weeks continue to roll on like the living end. Now, after the build up of the year gone before, the next part of the DC swig. A countdown to another thing and the comics start from the end...
The event of the year is here! This brand-new, year-long weekly series features a cast of hundreds where anything goes! With head writer Paul Dini and a rotating team of some of the industry's best writers and artists, COUNTDOWN will serve as the backbone of the DCU in 2007.
When a character dies in COUNTDOWN 51, it sets off an unexpected ripple that will touch virtually every character in the DC Universe.
The COUNTDOWN is on... so begins the end!
Countdown #51 from DC Comics
Mark and Michael Polish, The Polish Brothers, with Sebastian A. Jones and J.K. Woodward throw into the science fiction with
Salvador. Brittle bones, flight of might and DNA into the mix. We're getting airborne peeps.
Hack/Slash: The Series goes on an ongoing whomping with Tim Seeley and Emily Stone. Killers beware, there's a girl about to take you out.
Saurav Mohapatra and Jeevan Kang run after a fore ward from Deepak Chopra and bring to life the stories of the gods and in the first instance,
India Authentic: Ganesha. One with the arms and the visage of what appears to be an elephant.
Stay up long enough and you too can be a hollow log. Any way, one swipe at the iron and it's
Red Sonja: Vacant Shell. Rick Remender and
Paul Renaud look to clashing against the hide of the undead with a view to a hellish kill.

Hellboy: Darkness Calls #1; written by Mike Mignola with art by Duncan Fegredo
When walking through a pitch dark cave, it'd be a good idea to be in there with a light of some sort. And, when there is a mine to be excavated, a little birdy for the ride. Most often a canary. If it's a gonna, there's gas about.
And the last thing you need is to step into a gassy area with a torch that doesn't need batteries.
Witches all across the world seek out Hellboy, but this time, they're not just after revenge.
The long-awaited follow-up to 2005's The Island, the six-issue miniseries Darkness Calls sees Mike Mignola pushing his greatest creation, Hellboy, toward the next major turning point in his life, with haunting art by Duncan Fegredo (Enigma, Ultimate Adventures).
Hellboy: Darkness Calls #1 (of 6) from Dark Horse Comics
Milk and cookies theatre as the house gets classy with
Marvel Illustrated: Last of the Mohicans. Adapting James Fenimore Cooper's novel, Roy Thomas, Steven Kurth and Denis Medri disappears between the encroaching civilization of one world dominating and wiping out another.
While back in black, right here, in the
Sensational Spider-Man Annual it's with Matt Fraction and Salvador Larroca taking a back track. Found a zit on the inside of the finger tip. Ow, does it ever hurt.
Pretty much child's play as
Chucky goes a hacking and a slashing courtesy of being around Brian Pulido and Josh Medors. Andy Barclay, first to encounter the maniac doll, better run for his entrails.
35 is another age and Michael Avon Oeming and Ron Adrian squeeze it up some in
Giant Size Red Sonja. Old mix in with the colours of the new and it's a massive load of Sonja to behold.
Evil, evil, evil, oh, but that's just in degrees of cheese fellow line walkers. Watch on as Christopher E. Long and Chee take in a few kids in
Ward of the State only to churn them out as killing machines later on by their foster mother. Way to go The System!
The warrior princess who looks and talks like a Kiwi took a dirt nap at the end of the show.
Dark Xena by John Layman and Noah Salonga bring up the fact that Gabrielle better watch out how she puts in her request to bring back Xena. Like asking for extra time off from a place you've never worked?
The Winchesters get all pen and inked in
Supernatural: Origins with Peter Johnson, Matthew Dow Smith, Geoff Johns and Phil Hester kicking some hide on the folklore and urban legend side. Before the show, before the hunt, and shortly after the flames of mother Mary on the ceiling.

Aspen Matthews mini bust - designed by Michael Turner, sculpted by Eric Sosa - Aspen Entertainment
Aspen Matthews, from
Fathom, spends much time in the water. Especially considering that she's a Blue/Black and her homeworld is under the surface we all like to stomp and call the earth.
Her attire, naturally, befits the wear of any one who takes to the waters, a bikini wouldn't drag as much as long sleeves and pants. In Aspen's case, it's a natural wardrobe choice for her setting. But she's not the only heroine to get about in a bikini.
Sheena, Queen of the Jungle - it's hot, it's sticky, it's the jungle. Bikini-clad wear is as modest as it gets, and quite the sensible choice. That is until the mozzies and gnats and all manner of biters start latching onto the bare skin.
Shanna the She-Devil - same deal as Sheena, only with slightly different pronunciation. However, a re-imagined mature version would suggest bikini type wear being overkill.
Tigra - Avengers member and leopard print all over. "No Fur!" campaign from PETA might bring her more than naked, it's what they call prep for the table of meat-eaters.
Red Sonja - clearly fighting a hundred battles in chain-mail is one thing. That the outfit styled is a bikini, curiouser and curiouser at the open areas prone to slash attacks. Makes for quick swings and swipes however.

Red Sonja #0; co-writers: Michael Avon Oeming and Mike Carey, art: Mel Rubi
After years of walking in the wilderness, Red Sonja's return to the comic shelves was marred by a less than full forced feel into the Tenth Year Celebration of Mercedes Australian Fashion Week.
At odds and under fire from event organisers is her trademark attire; the fiery red head's flotilla of costumes all bear the same style, cut and fabric. Each one more identical than the last.
No real wonder then that the She-Devil with a Sword -- not to be confused with ordinary she-devils without swords -- has been denied a card into the much-hyped, high stakes
fashion week event.
At one point questions were raised
regarding the rights to the fashion and stylings of Red Sonja. Questions quickly dismissed as nothing more than ordinary transitional stable relocations from Marvel to Cross Plains and now to
Dynamite Entertainment.
Plans for her comic series, however, remain hopeful.
