newuniversal #1; Written by Warren Ellis with pencils from Salvador Larroca
They make sunglasses to keep out the harsh rays of the sun from burning the eyes with the UV. They don't necessarily make them for keeping out fingers that want to poke like the Three Stooges have taught some of the kids.
Planet Earth. Inhabited by six billion people. People leading ordinary lives, coping with everyday struggles. But on a night like any other, the Earth is rocked by the most startling celestial event ever witnessed by the human race. The White Event.
And from its wake, a handful of humans emerge as something more.
Acclaimed writer Warren Ellis (NEXTWAVE) and superstar artist Salvador Larroca (X-MEN) bring you this new universe -
a universe witnessing superhuman power for the first time.

Andy Diggle and Whilce Portacio go on ahuntin' and ascoutin' to see just where the Dark Knight got his goodies and bag of tricks in a six issue
Batman Confidential. One mention of shark repellant and it's back to licking sweaty thongs.
It ain't a Marvel handbook, it's one from Image and with that,
The Official Handbook Of The Invincible Universe rips yarns and bios on the good and bad people that Mark Grayson, aka Invincible, has to live with in his universe.
Rehash of the horror slash continues apace and this time it's Jaso Vorhees with
Friday The 13th. Jimmy Palmiotti, Justin Gray and Adam Archer are the tour guides in this visit to Crystal Lake. Amazingly enough, the tourists aren't too bothered by its history of bloodening.
Queensland/Adelaide for superheroes, that's what
Tranquility is. A place where the old crime fighters take afternoon naps between snacks on jelly and soft bread. Gail Simone and Neil Googe booking the long ride into the peace and quiet that turns out not to be entirely that.
One team to inspire them all,
Justice Society of America. Geoff Johns, Dale Eaglesham and Art Thibert watch on with the recruitment program that kicks off the series. As all series kickers are looking to do when a team's involved by nominations and elections.
Fire, flames and a whole lot of flickering ember in

Annihilation #1 (of 6); written by Keith Giffen, pencils by Andrea Divito, cover by Gabriele Dell'otto
With the earth bound super heroes duking it out in the political stakes of their Civil War, another battle, high up in the cosmos comes to a head. More wars than the ones blasting rubble in your face.
The individual Annihilation mini-series (Nova, Super-Skrull, Ronan, and Silver Surfer) have all led to this as the Annihilation Wave makes it play for universal domination and utter destruction in Annihilation #1.
Annihilation begins and already, two heroes have fallen and a long proud empire is in shambles. Individually, the big guns of the cosmos have tried to defeat the Annihilation Wave, but barely succeeded in even slowing it down.
Now, heroes and villains alike must unite for an all-out war with Annihilus and his murdering hordes. Follow Nova, Drax, Silver Surfer, Galactus, Moondragon, and your other favorite cosmic characters as they fight for their lives against the terrors of the Negative Zone.
Writer Keith Giffen and artist Andrea Divito along with Gabrielle Dell'Otto providing jaw-dropping covers are ready to rock Marvel space to its core with this cosmic epic.

Departure From Krypton mini statue - DC Direct - designed and sculpted by William Paquet
With the impending destruction of their home planet Krypton, a scientist by the name of Jor-El and his wife, Laura, send off their little son, Kal-El to Earth.
There, little Kal-El grows up to the a saviour known the world over as Superman. And, for the other journalists of The Daily Planet, Metropolis' major newspaper, intrepid and mild mannered reporter, Clark Kent.
Transport mode of choice in this case is a shuttle. Unfortunately, for any late comers, once the doors are closed, the doors are closed. No late admittance, once and done, it goes off like a sock on the end of a North Korean missile launch.
Seating only one passenger, it affords the traveller that peace and quiet from other commuters and passengers. So much so that there isn't even the bother of a flight attendant. A sore point for some, it also means that any foods and snacks are BYO.

Space Ghost Coast to Coast: Zorak maquette - Hanna-Barbera - DC Direct - sculpted by Tony Cipriano
Earlier in the week,
Tony the Tiger went and put away his bowl of Frosties. For good. Spoon and all. Such a voice, such a sweet abundance of sugar frosting on those flakes in the cereal. Take a handful, shove it down the gullet and watch the rush blow out the eyeballs.
Speaking of which, the King of Australian television,
Graham Kennedy, finally turned in his papers. What a long time coming that was. Out of the spotlight for so long, was it only just today that the man walked away?
Space Ghost, host of his own TV show,
Space Ghost Coast to Coast and loved by everyone outside of band members, Brak and
Zorak, is still a pompous twit. Plans are always afoot to take the Ghost out of the lime light.
But with a host and a voice gone, that's going to have to wait for another week. This week's quota is done.
