Project Superpowers #0; Dynamite Entertainment

Project Superpowers #0; Dynamite Entertainment

Project Superpowers #0, formerly known as Superpowers comes out this week with the first issue, running a little late due to re-naming the title we think. From the creative team that brought you the twelve part series Justice; Alex Ross and Jim Krueger presents a tale that features superheroes from WWII that now find themselves in the present time.

From the dawn of the 20th Century came a new chapter in mankind's history, unleashed during a time of great war and destruction. It was the beginning of the Age of the SUPERPOWERS, yet with the closing of the Second World War, this new spark seemingly flickered and died.  Until now... Now the story can be told of the great lost SUPERPOWERS -- men and women with incredible abilities who changed the course of mankind forever... and who had been thought lost ... Until now... Now, DYNAMITE ENTERTAINMENT and Alex Ross unleash the SUPERPOWERS! This explosive #0 issue features a story crafted by Justice collaborators Alex Ross and Jim Kruger, joined by artists Stephen Sadowksi, Doug Klauba and additional art by Alex Ross. The story of SUPERPOWERS begins here, in the present day with the Fighting Yank, coming to terms with the ghosts of his past and present! As our story unfolds, we journey to the heights and depths of the Second World War and come face-to-face with the great forgotten heroes of the ages, and solve the mystery of where these legends disappeared to after the great war. This is THE event of 2007, and it leads directly into the SUPERPOWERS series! Issue #0 is where it all begins and features 28 pages of story and art PLUS a full SUPERPOWERS color sketchbook by Ross and original Ross interconnecting covers - all for just a buck!

Trade of the week - Aliens Vs Predator Omnibus Vol 1

Although this is not new, I thought it would be a good time to feature this trade, with the second AVP movie being released.

Mankind's two ultimate nightmares come together in mortal combat, and whoever wins-we lose. On the remote planet Ryushi, a small ranching community becomes an unwilling participant in a deadly ritual: extraterrestrial Predators have seeded Ryushi with Alien eggs in order to create the ultimate hunt. But what the Predators don't know is that an Alien queen egg is amongst those they've sent as potential hunting stock, and when the Predators arrive, the hunters become the hunted amidst a monumental swarm of Aliens, and they may need to turn to the very same humans they regard as little more than potential trophies to give them any hope of survival. Aliens vs. Predator Omnibus Volume One packs over 400 pages of excitement and terror into one package, offering the original smash-hit AVP comics series that launched the franchise, plus the exciting continuation of the storyline previously published as AVP: War.

Aliens Vs Predator omnibus Vol. 2 is also available.

This week's merchandise feature is the Lizard statue, this is another masterpiece coming from Bowen Designs. This statue stand over twelve inches tall and is limited to a thousand pieces worldwide. It also comes fully painted and ready to display. Everything about this statue screams "buy me" (well it does to me lol). Awesome sculpt, the tail being one of his best features.

The Lizard character was created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko in Amazing Spider-Man #6 in 1963.

Spidey and Sonja, slinging on a roof-top

Spider-Man/Red Sonja #1 (of 5); written by Michael Avon Oeming, pencils by Mel Rubi, cover by Michael Turner

Spider-Man/Red Sonja #1 (of 5); written by Michael Avon Oeming, pencils by Mel Rubi, cover by Michael Turner
Spider-Man and Red Sonja, on a roof top, in those kinds of outfits? Certainly not winter where they are right now...

The wise-cracking Wall-Crawler collides with the She-Devil with a Sword! Longtime Marvel readers know that these two legends have met before -- but that was just the warm-up! They may be from two different eras, but Spider-Man and Red Sonja have both faced the maniacal mage known as Kulan Gath. Now the sadistic sorcerer makes a play for power that will once again bring these two famous heroes together -- but will it be as friends or foes?

Writer Michael Avon Oeming (OMEGA FLIGHT, Red Sonja) and Mel Rubi (Red Sonja) -- plus series cover artist Michael Turner (CIVIL WAR) -- answer the eternal question: What's better in a fight, the proportional strength and speed of a spider, or cold, hard steel and a chain-mail bikini?

Spider-Man/Red Sonja #1 (of 5) from Marvel Comics

Speaking of others clad in a bikini, though not of the metal and instead of the furry kind, Shanna The She-Devil: Survival of the Fittest. Jimmy Palmiotti, Justin Gray and Khari Evans on four points for the series with modern day pirates, though no hint of the latest albums before release or the simultaneous look see of movies out now. Modern day!

Pirates be coursing about now with Peter the Pirate Squid from Roman Dirge and Steven Daily. Eight legs and a patch over an eye a pirate squid make.

Drop those Rs right now with the Hewoes from Bill Maus to come parody the day. Yes, on that show with those mutants and the Japanese kid who loves reading X-Men comics.

Evil comes round for a little visit and it's with Derek Ruiz and Dawid Straus on the Legend Of Isis looking to see if they can survive the onslaught. Teeth radiated from the phone feel chattery.

All over with the clangy clang with Duncan Rouleau and Metal Men. Eight bolts to nut down and they're up against a rather big French fry.

Big shoulders, tiny waists and a white picket fence with Iron and the Maiden. Jason Rubin, Francis Manapul and Joel Gomez in a world of mobsters looking for love, revenge and a second chance.

Took a hint of glint in the eye the other day. And like the painting red on the house, it's a snap for the First Born from Ron Marz and Stjepan Sejic. Sara Pezzini, the one time wielder of the Witchblade, now ready to be popping child.

Hardcover of the week

So nice we spot it twice. Grab a hold of Immortal Iron Fist Volume 1: The Last Iron Fist Story Premiere in the hardcover format from Matt Fraction, Ed Brubaker, David Aja and Travel Foreman and chi that block out into smithereens. Say it again, "smithereens"! Now that's a great word.

Knights in satin shorts and sleeves

Kiss 4K #1; written by Kevin Sprague, art by Daniel Campos and Kevin Crossley

Kiss 4K #1; written by Kevin Sprague, art by Daniel Campos and Kevin Crossley
Yes, yes, Knights in Satan's Service and whatnot. Of course, for the more adventurous, there is the other version of this comic not on the shelves. Frankly because no shelf can sit it. Check out the destroyer edition of the comic when you're next in store, it's one massive hoagie.

A mysterious and beautiful figure reveals to each KISS member that they carry the world-protecting warrior spirits of the 4K. But have they learned this incredible secret too late? Get in on the ground floor of this sprawling, epic adventure as realities crash and the Demon, the Starchild, the King of All Beasts and the Celestial open up an all-new KISS universe!

Kiss 4K from Platinum Studios

End of the road and a tale of woe in four ripples with Silver Surfer: Requiem. J. Michael Straczynski and Esad Ribic are on the silver board as the bald one looks to complete his final voyage. No whales then? No, that must have been something else.

The Ride: Die, Valkyrie! and it's one before the other two in the close out with Doug Wagner and Brian Stelfreeze and a hot assassin kicking it with a car chase and tons of guns. And not the kind from many bicep curls.

Spider-Man Fairy Tales is pretty much as it says. C.B. Cebulski, David Sexton and Ricardo Tercio take Spidey and throw the webslinger into the sorts of stories what makes them Fables kick that Jack Horner out on his can.

Jim Valentino looks inside with outside on the right side while Drawing From Life. Stories from life set to move you, set to make you shift and to make you uh... not eat paper?

Brian Holguin and Philip Tan go to town with Bairn in a world of gods and magic in the new running Spawn: Godslayer. One by one the hunt is on and the maggots still make up the dinner plate with a special sauce of necroplasm.

Trade of the week

Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson return from the black bolt off one bullet and go blasting the caps with The Boys Volume 1: The Name of The Game. All sordid and sorted keeping the boys with their super powers in line and in check.

Eating good in the neighbourhood

Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Annual #1; written by Peter David, art by Ronan Cliquet, Colleen Doran and Robert Stull

Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Annual #1; written by Peter David, art by Ronan Cliquet, Colleen Doran and Robert Stull
Sand castles and storms, not a good combination for those looking to take their picnics by the beach. Worse still for those who look to eat something called a sandwich. Whatever kind of crazy snack concoction that sounds like, it don't make sense to be eating dirt. Unless it is a dirtsub, in which case, yes, all the salads, please.

With the thrill of the summer's biggest blockbuster still fresh in your young minds, Marvel brings you the story of how it all started for one of Spider-Man's greatest villains in SANDMAN: YEAR ONE.

With a sensational battle between Spider-Man and Sandman, new secrets revealed about Flint Marko, a touching tale of love and a dynamite creative team, how can you say no to the double-sized Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Annual #1?

Plus a very special back-up story by Colleen Doran.

Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Annual #1 from Marvel Comics

Take those fingers numb to the bone and follow Final Girl from David Hutchinson. She being the one who outlasts the others and ends up possibly in the next horror tale, if only it were all that simple.

Snakewoman takes a jump back from the dust trail with Zeb Wells and Michael Gaydos looking to hook on the series before it started. Looking back before walking over the hissing forward in a sense.

Fred van Lente and James Cordeiro jump around in the cold with metal on the skin in Marvel Adventures Iron Man. Another shot at retelling and following again the exploits of the one with the tippy on the drinky.

Eric Powell sticks a one shot up the far back end and pulls out Satan's Sodomy Baby to go and make the most of finding the sordid and most dirty of things from the mind. Like tipping the head to the side and watching the ear wax melt out after a session with the hollow candle.

Trade of the week

Doctor Strange: The Oath and it's where the good doctor of the supreme mystic arts knows how to work the snipes and quips like no other finger doodling mystic master can.
