More necklace than jewellers intended

Akuma - Street Fighter action figures - series 4 - SOTA Toys
Akuma - Street Fighter action figures - series 4 - SOTA Toys
Such a mysterious man this street fighter by the name Akuma. Demon to some, a wicked harbinger of death to the unfortunate to cross his path. A fighter nonetheless in the style leagues of Ryu and Ken. But far more powerful. Far more so.

The kind of warrior esteemed only enough to fight the worthy? Not scratching the worthiness pole? Then fear not, death he will bring to someone else. It is the way and life of Akuma.

Sporting a massive jangly necklace, it's apparent that the neck muscles of this world warrior are mighty strong. Finding the right outfit to go with these beads may be tough. But the wise in fashion will always know what outfit works best and better with the right accessory. Or vice versa.

Taking another shot at doing some Hard Time

Hard Time Season Two #1; written by Steve Gerber and Mary Skrenes; art by Brian Hurtt and Steve Bird; cover by Hurtt
From the quality highs of Arrested Development and Veronica Mars to the Black-n-Decker drill to the head lows of Joey and One Tree Hill (or reversed dependent upon taste), summer brings with it a change and inflection to lie prone. Sticking with sweat to that leather or vinyl couch, can or glass sucked to the forehead.

For some, a back laid right up against the fibro wall looking vainly for some of that cooling comfort only bricks might bring without an air-conditioner. Suffer those living in actual greenhouses. Or caravans.

Back again for another dose of soap dropping, behind the bars, shivs made from plastic knives antics, Hard Time. The only survivor of DC's Focus line of comics in 2004.

Sentenced to 50 years to life for his role in a high school prank gone tragically wrong, Ethan Harrow has just turned 16 in a maximum-security prison. He's made fast friends, earned mortal enemies, and even gotten his first kiss from a mysterious girl named Red. Above all else, Ethan's only just started to learn the boundaries of superpowers he didn't know he had!

The original HARD TIME team of legendary writer Steve Gerber (Howard the Duck, The Defenders) and Mary Skrenes (Omega the Unknown) and breakout talent Brian Hurtt (Queen & Country, Gotham Central) return for a second season that follows Ethan's quest for a new trial -- and reveals the secret histories of the lost souls inside State Penitentiary. Superpowers have never been this real!

Season two of a fine series, a chance again to take it up like a fan and ram it over along the other comics on the shelf.

Other brand spanking new titles (and a couple of rehashes) hitting out this week: The Looking Glass Wars: Hatter M from Image, Team Zero from DC Comics, Angel: Old Friends from IDW Publishing, Marvel Zombies from Marvel and Street Fighter II from UDON Studios.

Never mess with Guile, never mess with the haircut

Guile action figure - Street Fighter: Series 3 - SOTA Toys
Guile action figure - Street Fighter: Series 3 - SOTA Toys
Martial arts, military fighting skills and street brawling tactics to whip even the most unflipped opponent out on the floor. The US Air Force pilot known to some as Guile, and William F. Guile to fewer of those, is a street fighter with the kind of hair cut that would do a Broom Head proud.

As a hair cut to set your watch to? Not quite, that's the style of Johnny Unitas.

Shaped with an immense hold, Guile's do is the kind you set your choice of beverage upon. It can also double as a stable table if need be. Or as an emergency platter for a round of drinks.

The Mullet - a hair cut to set a decade to. None of which are particularly welcoming to those who don't want anything but a party out the back while the business is going on in the front.

Dreadlocks - mix it with a multi-coloured tie-dye T-shirt and the Rastafarian stereotype is near complete.

Mutton Chops - where the old Colonial times are never enough and walking through the cold is enough to make you long for warmth along the jaw line and no where else.

Say hello again (and again) to She Hulk

Hulk's fine looking cousin, Jennifer Walters, aka She-Hulk, aka Shulkie, returns again in another series.

Fired up from the fun of the first it promises to be everything the previous series was. Fun, quirky, snappy and tight, only now there'll be a 2 in the title.

The surprise hit from last year is BACK in a new ONGOING series! Join She-Hulk as she deals with the bizarre legal problems of the Marvel U! Strange twists, exciting adventures, and lots of one, two, and three-part stories guest-starring all of your favorite Marvel Characters!

And in this first issue, She-Hulk isn't the only one returning. Get ready, True Believer! Because it's NOT a dream, NOT a hoax, and NOT HOUSE OF M -- HAWKEYE'S BACK! We kid you not! So why is Clint Barton giving Jen Walters such a hard time? And how is his fate tied in to She-Hulk's latest case? Well--you're just going to have to check out She-Hulk #1 to find out!

Not easy keeping the green woman down it seems.

Other returns from beneath the murky depths of old: Street Fighter II (UDON),Runaways (Marvel), Evil Ernie (Devil's Due) and Transformers (IDW).
